The streets of old Arles

Today is a sunny break in a string of cloudy and rainy weather, so I headed out to look at the streets of Arles.  Walking through the old streets is unlike walking through any modern town.  The streets were laid out long ago, and as a result, they are very narrow.  And in several cases, broad steps were built in lieu of level pavement, so vehicular traffic can't use the streets. Old buildings line the old streets, and although many have been extensively remodeled inside, the exteriors have maintained their old lines.

A street made of cobblestone steps

Many of the roads into the old part of Arles have restricted access (through electronic pylons in the middle of the road), and the city has recently begun charging residents for the limited parking that is available.  As a result, there isn't much traffic on these streets.  I'm not sure how UPS would make deliveries here, other than on foot.
