A stroll through the Foundation

The Foundation Vincent Van Gogh Arles, of course!  Today, we had tickets to the current exhibit of 31 Van Gogh paintings entitled Van Gogh en Provence.  All the pieces were on loan from other institutions, and it was a rare opportunity to view some of his work near where he created it.

There were several categories of paintings on display:

Portraits, including 2 self portraits.

Self-portrait, Paris November 1886
Self-portrait, Paris, Oct. 1887

An old Arlesian, Arles, Feb. 1888

Still lifes.

Potatoes, Arles, Jan.1889

Absinthe, Paris, March 1887

And landscapes.

An Arles landscape, painted in April 1888

Fishing boats at Stes. Maries de la mer, June 1888

The Green Vines, Arles, Oct. 1888

Trees, Saint Remy, July 1889

Great exhibit, and fun to see right around the corner from where he lived and painted.

A view from our walk home, about 1/2 block from the site of the Night Cafe painting.
