New territory

Today we headed off to visit La Cote Bleue, a region of hilly topography between the Etang de Berre and Mediterranean, just west of Marseilles.  Its name refers to the intense blue of the waters.  This area consists of small old fishing villages (now largely a summer resort area) sheltered by deep inlets in the steep coastline.  It sounded idyllic.  However, getting there from Arles, passes by lots of commercial ports, with heavy truck traffic.

We visited Carro, briefly.  The GPS brought us to the center of town -- a wooded park with no ocean or businesses in sight.  As we left town, we had one glimpse of the water, at a popular beach, below the road.

Then we headed east, off to Carry-le-Rouet.  A lot of the topography and architecture reminded me of the Mediterranean style housing seen in California.

We ate lunch at a restaurant overlooking the little harbor.  Very pretty setting.
