Faced with overcast skies, and uncertain weather, we opted to try a new bike route that was on the short side. We drove to Le Grau du Roi, rented bikes at a beachfront shop, and then picked up a new bike trail that followed the canal between Le Grau du Roi and Aigues Mortes. Most of the bike trail was restricted to bikes or pedestrians only. We had to share the road with a little vehicular traffic on the north end.

In the lagoons and salt ponds along the way, we saw flamingoes and swans. Vineyards bordered the trail for a while. It was a nice ride, and a great sight to see the walled city on the canal, rising out of the marshland.
