


Although palometas are not brightly colored (instead, basically silver), their long black fins give them quite a presence as they cruise through shallow water over the sand. A glimpse of them always brightens a dive.
The palometa is a member of the jack family, and is a schooling species. These fish were about 10 to 12 inches long. The biggest school that I have seen this season contained 24 fish.
