The many colors of trumpetfish

Trumpetfish are stealth predators that try to blend in with their surroundings. Sometimes they try to match the color of a fish that they are shadowing. Sometimes they try to blend in with rope sponges or gorgonians.

Most often, we see them in a reddish brown color. However, we frequently see them in yellow and blue phases, or with snouts of yellow or blue. They are quite common, and range from about 18 to 24 inches.
