Today on a dive, I had the unexpected pleasure of coming upon a Caribbean spiny lobster out in the open, at about 30 feet. It was about 12 inches long, and didn't seem to mind divers at all. Most lobster hide deep under reef structures during the day, and we rarely get to see more than a glimpse of them. They usually forage out in the open only at night.
