More eels
Today, while diving, we encountered 2 more eel species. Their bodies were both obstructed from view, with their heads the only part that was visible. So head shots it is.
The bottom photo features a spotted snake eel. Its body (3 to 4 feet long) was buried (tail first) under sand at about 30 feet deep. We had hoped that it would come out of the sand, but it preferred to continue resting, and eventually pulled its head completely under the sand. This species is considered rare to uncommon.
The top photo captured a chain moray inside a small reef structure, at about 35 feet deep. From its head size, I'm guessing it was 1.5 to 2 feet long. Chain morays are fairly common, but they are often hidden in the reef during the day.
