Two saintes

The town of Les Saintes Maries de la Mer is named for 3 Saintes Maries who landed here in an oarless boat, following an epic journey from Egypt.  But one other female sainte is as famous and celebrated in town.  She is Sainte Sara, the black servant of the Saintes Maries.  Sainte Sara has been adopted as the patron saint of the Roma, also known as Gitane, or Gypsies.  May 24 and 25 is a festival celebrating Sara.  Roma people have started flocking to town for this event.

I found these statues in Stes. Maries de la Mer.
