In the South

Yesterday, we left rainy Paris, and took a high speed train south to Arles.  The rain continued past Orange, then stopped somewhere near Avignon.  The weather was sunny and bright in Arles, but the puddles everywhere indicated that we hadn't missed the rain by much.  Everything seemed so much brighter than Paris.

Today, we headed out for a walk around the new neighborhood.  We encountered a couple of women carrying baguettes, so we inquired where there was a boulangerie nearby.  We found one, and got directions to a second, so I'll have to go look for that one later.

At the tourist office, the old carrousel was running.  It dates from 1900.  The scenes on the top of it are specific to the area around Arles, and several of the animals to ride are bulls.  Not your typical carrousel.

We stopped in the Place de la Republique to watch groups of people gather and move into the nearby church for a series of christenings, as well as tour guides meet up with their walking tours of Arles.  And we headed home for lunch after we heard the clocks chime twelve.
