Squat anemone shrimp

Sea anemones are beautiful animals themselves, but to me, part of the inner beauty of anemones is the myriad of shrimp that reside in and around them.  Many of the shrimp species are cleaners. Squat anemone shrimp are the smallest shrimp that I can regularly see.  They range from 1/4 to 3/4 inch in length.

Their body color varies from reddish to brown to gray, but they all have broad white saddle markings and other white spots. These photos were taken at depths of 20 to 35 feet.

Here, the almost transparent mystery shrimp is just right of center, between the 2 lower squat shrimp.

A bevy of squat anemone shrimp in and around this anemone.
