Not just another blenny

This morning, at the conclusion of our dive, we encountered this brightly colored hairy blenny under a rock where we were getting out of the water.  It is the largest blenny that occurs in this area, commonly reaching 6 inches.  We had never seen anything like it.

Most of the photos of this species in our Reef Fish Identification guide are much drabber, but one photo had the same coloring.  Based on the banding, I thought that this was probably a female.  However, I just re-checked the guide book and noticed that this color pattern is attributed to a courting male. It was over 4 inches long.  The photos were taken in less than 1 foot of water.

What a face!
