Barracuda

After thinking that perhaps the local barracuda population wasn't very robust any more, this morning on our dive, we saw between 10 and 15 great barracuda.  They were hanging in the water column just off the bottom at a depth of about 20 feet.  They were gathered in small groups, of 2 to 5.  They are striking in their appearance: long, and silvery, with black markings.

Most of these fish were about 2 feet in length, but one was quite a bit fatter, as well as half again longer.  Great barracuda can get up to about 6 feet.  Their teeth look pretty intimidating when they reach that size.  Local fishermen catch and sell barracuda.
