After a train trip down to Provence, we headed out for our first day cycling around here. We drove to the coast, rented bikes in Le Grau-du-Roi, and rode along one of our favorite local routes. Much of it is on bike trails, and the whole experience is nothing like riding at home.
We rode north to the walled city of Aigues Mortes, stopping inside the city for cafe and to buy some cookies. Some of the streets were festively decorated with strands of large, colorful butterflies wired high above the cobblestones.
Following that, we circled the walled city, then headed back to the Mediterranean.
We had lunch along the canal at a restaurant that has its own pier where fishing boats tie up and offload their catch. Today the haul was 2 1/2 bushels of octopus.
