May 8th is an important celebration in France, the end of World War II. This year, Arles held a Bal de la Paix (a Victory Ball) in the Place de la Republique, in front of the Hotel de Ville (City Hall).

This celebration was largely for locals, but it featured American culture prominently. The festivities began when a bunch of WWII vintage jeeps and other vehicles drove up flying American flags.

After a few speeches, the band started playing American swing music and 2 couples danced the swing on stage.
In honor of the war dead, I give you red poppies from the banks of the Rhone River.
I continue to hope for world peace.
