Cycling in the Camargue

Today, we headed south to cycle along the dikes out to the lighthouse (and beyond) from les Saintes Maries de la Mer.  We never know exactly what to expect, but managed to cover 20 miles.

Although the lighthouse (phare de Gacholle) was our primary target, we rode past it up to the road to Beauduc. Between the lighthouse and the road, we passed hundreds of high-school students hiking towards the lighthouse.  After we turned around, we overtook the students where they had assembled into small groups, each led by a teacher.  It was some kind of field trip.  However, earlier, we noticed that the white van in the background was driven by a small group of musicians (with at least 3 guitars).  So, after their school work was done, it looks like there might have been a little entertainment planned.  Ah springtime field trips!

Our reward at the end of the ride was a couple of flamingos feeding alongside of the road.
