A morning spent with the bee eaters

Several years ago, we stumbled upon a sizable nesting colony of bee eaters.  These birds are gorgeous, colorful, and a joy to see in large numbers.

The colony is along the bank of a canal, near a bike path.  The bank is lined with nest holes.  It's hard to get super close to them, but the birds gracefully flit about, chirping as they go.  We always try to photograph them, but never know what we will get.

Here's what we saw today.
