Another trip to the Saturday market.

The Saturday market here is huge.  It closes the main road for several blocks.  Residents and visitors are required to move their cars from parking spaces used by the market from midnight Friday to 3 PM on Saturday.

Below, you will find a few photos of what the roadways look like on market day.  There is a sizable population of north-African descent that lives here, as you might guess from the way that many women dress.

Main road on Saturday

Middle of the road

Vendor's vehicles are parked on the sidewalk, and their goods are set up in the roadway -- the stoplights continue to run although no one pays any attention to them.

And below, I've posted a few photos of items that are available here, but you are unlikely to find at your local market.

Zucchini flowers

Dates, still attached to their stems

Tellines, little tiny bivalves to be steamed and served with aioli sauce

Lavender

The food is calling me.  Time to start cooking. Bon appetite!
