This morning, I encountered a hawksbill turtle that seemed to be looking for something to eat. It was fairly small, about 16 inches long. This turtle had no ID tags on its flippers, so it hasn't been caught in any turtle surveys. The photos were taken at a depth of about 45 feet.
In previous years, we have encountered more hawksbill turtles than green turtles. This year we have seen more green turtles than hawksbills. In four weeks of diving, this was only the second hawksbill turtle that I have seen.

It's overhanging upper bill resembles a hawk's bill, hence the name. |
