This morning, we encountered a pair of coneys that were perched peculiarly under opposite sides of the same little patch coral. Their posture was odd, which made me think that maybe they were getting cleaned. But no cleaners were visible. There had to have been some other reason that for this posture.
The coney is a member of the sea bass family. The two black dots on the lower lip are are a distinctive feature of this species, that occurs in many different color variations.
The fish were about 7 inches long, and the photos were taken at a depth of about 20 feet.
