Spanish hogfish

The Spanish hogfish is a colorful wrasse that we see almost constantly swimming around coral reefs.  As juveniles they work as cleaner fish.  As adults, they solicit cleaning, sometimes from juveniles of their own species.  This species grows up to 2 feet.  The fish in these photos were 10 to 12 inches long.

The photos were taken at various depths, ranging from 25 to 50 feet.

This Spanish hogfish is being cleaned by a cleaning goby.

View of the teeth.

This fish shows a reddish variation in the shade of purple.

This fish is soliciting cleaning from juvenile blueheads and a juvenile Spanish hogfish (just below the fish to the left).
