This morning, we encountered a sizable school of boga, over the reef. It was our first big school of the season. They are quite elegant looking, silvery blue, streamlined fish, with thin stripes and a yellow snout. They grow up to 9 inches, but the fish we saw today were closer to 5 or 6 inches in length.
Boga (in the bonnetfish family) swim in schools in open water, and sometimes swim down to deep reefs. Some of the boga we saw today were soliciting cleaning from cleaner fish. These photos were taken at depths of 55 to 60 feet.
These fish were moving around quite a bit. So please forgive the imperfect focus on many moving targets.
