Les Baux

Perched high on a rocky outcropping above the valley floor, Les Baux-de-Provence served as an important military site for hundreds of years. While much of the fortress is in ruins, the site evokes medieval life and battle tactics.

I climbed to the top of what remains of two towers.  Spectacular setting.

The valley below is filled with olive groves and vineyards.

To avoid crowds, and snag a parking spot high on the hill, we arrived just before the site opened.  By the time we returned to the car, the little parking lot was about 1/3 full of rainbow-hued, old Citroens.
