We ventured a little farther to the southwest than we had been last year, and visited Le Grau du Roi, which is where King Louis' fleet from Aigues Mortes entered the Mediterranean for all their missions (I think). Parts of the town have an old fishing village feel, but a great deal of building took place in the late 1960's and 1970's, aimed at making the place an affordable resort. Much of the new housing has sort of a space age look to it.

We went cycling along the water's edge, from the inlet to the marinas, nothing to strenuous, but enjoyable.

Somehow, it was a holiday weekend, and the weather was warmer, with less wind than the last couple of weeks, so the beach was packed with tourists. The broad sandy beach, surrounded by flat land, is in sharp contrast to the topography of Cassis.
