We occasionally encounter longsnout seahorses in reef habitats here in Bonaire. Most often, we are given a hint where to look. Sometimes we just find them. They can be remarkable hard to see, even when you know where to look. We first saw this seahorse while snorkeling above it, in about 12 feet of water. From the surface, it looked like a drab little seahorse, hanging onto a small cable over bare sand.
Today, we made a point of stopping to view it on the bottom, at the end of our dive. From that perspective, it turned into a delicate little, black and white striped seahorse, in a nicer habitat. It was 3 to 4 inches long, and had its tail wrapped firmly around a bit of soft coral.
