Many fish on the reef take refuge under ledges, in recesses, and other protected areas during the day. On our dive this morning, we encountered several spotted trunkfish (members of the boxfish family). These fish were 6 to 8 inches long, and were seen at depths of 25 to 35 feet.
The first spotted trunkfish was swimming around inside a large, touch-me-not sponge.
The others were hiding under ledges.
It is always a treat to locate spotted trunkfish in their hiding places, and watch them watch us.
