Chain moray

This fish is perhaps the most strikingly colored moray eel.  Its chain-like yellow markings account for the name.  Morays generally forage at night, and hide in reef recesses during the day.  Occasionally, we see them moving about, here through coral and rope sponges.

I found this fish at a depth of about 35 feet.  It was heading deeper on the reef. Although the species reaches lengths of 2.5 feet, this one was about 1.5 feet long.
