This morning, we rode northeast of Aigues Mortes along canal paths. The first small canal runs from Aigues Mortes to the Canal du Rhone a Sete. A bridge over the Canal du Rhone a Sete connects the two canal paths. Just beyond the bridge is a lovely tower, La Tour Carbonniere, which was built at the end of the 13th century (the same time as the ramparts of Aigues Mortes). When it was erected, it was the only passageway across the marsh. A toll was charged. Lovely to see.
