We occasionally see rainbow parrotfish on our dives, but they are usually too deep, or too far away for a decent photo. Finally, I caught up with one in shallow water, and took these bright shots using natural light. Parrotfish graze algae and fish eggs off reef surfaces. We can often hear the big ones scraping away with their parrot beaks.
The rainbow parrotfish grows up to 5 1/2 feet, and is the largest that we see in Bonaire. This individual was nearly 3 feet long, The shots were taken in about 10 feet of water.
