Around the corner from our apartment is the Rue Mouffetard. It is a cobblestone road that is closed to motorized vehicles to enable shoppers to freely roam from stand to stand. Beautiful produce, cheese, meats, seafood, bread, and pastries (and more) line the lower two blocks, along with a small supermarche (supermarket). It is a lovely experience to shop for food along here. Everyone walks. Many people pull carts to carry their goods home, some carry bags or baskets.

In case this road seems just too idyllic to be possible, I should add that while we were buying a bagette at a bakery the other day, a potted orchid came flying out of an apartment above the bakery, and very nearly hit a woman who was walking in the center of the road. Flying bits of the broken ceramic pot hit her in the leg. It was quite alarming.
