We took the high-speed TGV train from Paris to Arles yesterday. The temperature is warmer, the buildings are older, and the pace is slower here. Our apartment is across the street from the ancient Roman arena. It dates from the end of the first century. The arena has been restored and is used for various events, including bull fighting (but not this week). We visited it today.

We normally don't like to visit sites while tour groups are there. However, this Spanish tour group was extremely entertaining. Before Senor Bullfighter entered the arena, the group was singing and chanting; a very happy bunch of people, and clearly a bull-fight loving people. They adored their friends' little performance.

Even Van Gogh celebrated the Arles arena.
