Where old lava meets the sea

This site is called two step, because there are a couple of slabs of lava that resemble steps.  Those steps provide the best place to get in and out of the water.

In the background is Pu'uhonua o Honaunau (Place of Refuge) National Historical Park.

The lava is where everyone spreads out their gear.  It's a popular site.

The fish du jour is the longnose butterflyfish.  Its Hawaiian name is lau wiliwili nukunuku 'oi'oi.
