Fish du jour

Today's featured fish is the balloonfish, a heavily-spined member of the porcupinefish family.  They often hide under reef structures, but this one was perched atop a yellow sponge, and didn't object to my presence.  The fish can inflate, as a defense mechanism, but they can also erect their spines, with or without inflating.

This fish was pretty shallow, at a depth of about 25 feet.  It was about 10 inches long.

Such a sweet face!
