What do fish do when the current gets strong?

On our dive this morning, the current seemed pretty strong. Some fish continue to gracefully swim into it. But others seek refuge from it, behind outcroppings, soft corals, and sponges. I was quite surprised to see a large number of fish, of several species hanging out inside this soft coral. Most of them appeared to be mahogany snappers (they are the silvery ones, with the reddish boarder on the tail). A French angelfish, and pair of banded butterflyfish were also in there.
