Peacock, flounder that is

This morning, we had the opportunity to watch several peacock flounder as they were hunting for prey.  They are always interesting to watch, as their eyes swivel around, like disconnected watch towers.  Flounder are able to rapidly morph from one color pattern to another, to blend in with their surroundings.

Maculated flounder also occur here, and are similar in appearance, but the notch in the head profile of the flounder in these photos identifies them as peacock flounder. They range from 6 to 15 inches in length.
